The Buckhead neighborhood features 40 different cities and communities with unique attractions and diverse atmospheres. It is a gorgeous area with tree-lined roads and rolling hills. Known as one of the most affluent towns in Atlanta, it’s home to highly desirable real estate.

Yet there are pockets of opportunity for first-time homebuyers and young professionals. Many can be found in the luxury condos in downtown Buckhead Village, but you can also find affordable single-family homes in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Here are the details on some of the best neighborhoods in Buckhead.

Chastain Park

Chastain Park is the largest and most beautiful park in Atlanta, and its beauty flows into the surrounding neighborhood of the same name. It is the perfect neighborhood for active people who enjoy the outdoors. You can play tennis or learn how to ride a horse at the Chastain Horse Park. They even have summer camps for the neighborhood kids. The Cadence Bank Amphitheatre at Chastain Park has a strong lineup of concerts, from Josh Groban to Bonnie Raitt and Steely Dan to Deftones. This active community is an excellent place for young families to look for Chastain Park homes for sale.

Brookhaven is technically its own city about 16 minutes east of Chastain Park homes for sale, but the locals think it is an extension of Buckhead because it is so similar. It’s a great neighborhood for first-time homebuyers to find a lovely home in a great community. There are plenty of green spaces to enjoy at the neighborhood parks. You can play a short game of golf surrounded by pine trees, blooming dogwoods, and azaleas at the neighborhood Peachtree Golf Club. A mix of over 30 luxury shopping and dining options is in the center of town at Brookhaven Village.

The lower part of Dunwoody is a busy area with shopping malls, high rises, and hospitals. Commuters can quickly come and go from the commercial areas on the MARTA train. The center of Dunwoody is home to historic farmhouse properties. The city isn’t allowing new high-density developments in the area due to its commitment to preservation and green space expansion. The focus of new construction developments is on single-family housing, making it an ideal destination for those looking for modern architecture. However, if you prefer the uniqueness of older homes, you can find plenty of late 20th-century homes on large lots. Dunwoody luxury homes are typically located in gated communities.

East Cobb

East Cobb is a family-focused neighborhood about 25 minutes north of Chastain Park homes for sale. The school district ranks among the highest in the state. Walton, Lassiter, and Pope High Schools receive national attention for their rich educational programs. After-school opportunities and youth sports are plentiful. From football to lacrosse and basketball to BMX, kids will be well-rounded and have plenty of opportunities to excel in the sports they enjoy. There are residential communities that feature pools, golf courses, or tennis courts. Some are wooded communities, while others sit on the banks of the Chattahoochee River.

Marietta is a historic area and the Cobb County seat. The downtown has historic government buildings mixed with new commercial developments. Further out from downtown, gated communities and neighborhoods have their own parks, pools, tennis courts, and playgrounds. The great mix of residences to choose from makes living in Marietta easy for any budget! Views of Kennesaw Mountain can be seen to the north, and its trails take you through Civil War battlefield sites. All of this, and Marietta is still close to downtown Atlanta.

Morningside is a progressive area with residents fueled by community activism. It is a popular spot for filming movies due to the lush parks and vintage neighborhood corner stores. Piedmont Park separates Morningside from Atlanta’s skyscrapers and is the site of the Atlanta Jazz Festival and many other nationally recognized events. The park provides daily enjoyment with its dog park, ponds, public swimming pool, and many walking paths. The Beltline is connected at either end of the park. Morningside provides suburban living just a step away from the heart of Atlanta and 25 minutes southeast of Chastain Park homes for sale.

Ansley Park

Once named one of the “10 Great Neighborhoods in America,” Ansley Park still embodies a sense of community. This historic neighborhood dates back to the first Atlanta suburb designed for automobiles and still strives to be an oasis in the middle of Atlanta. The “second best 9-hole layout in America,” according to Sports Illustrated, can be found at the Ansley Golf Club. The Fox Theatre and Atlanta Symphony Orchestra are within walking distance. Some of the most prestigious private schools have found their homes here, and the neighborhood features unique architecture for Buckhead luxury homes like Federal estates and Tudor-style properties.

Virginia Highland

Located about 30 minutes south of Chastain Park homes for sale, Virginia Highland is a contemporary and trendy neighborhood. With gorgeous historic homes and a thriving commercial area, the community prides itself on its walkability. It is a great destination for young professionals and Atlanta’s emerging elite.

New construction condos and townhouses can be found around the area's perimeter, while you can find gorgeous cottages and bungalows scattered throughout the neighborhood. Entertainment options range from the nationally-known Summerfest to the many unique, locally-owned bars and restaurants. Entrepreneurs are flocking to the area to set up shop in the thriving economy found in Virginia Highland.

Sandy Springs

Sandy Springs is a suburban city and an ideal spot for commuters inside the I-285 perimeter (ITP). There’s a quick connection to downtown Atlanta, the airport, and the web of interstates connecting Atlanta. Part of the city is outside the I-285 perimeter (OTP) also. Buckhead luxury homes in Sandy Springs often come with acres of land ranging from one acre to over 25 acres. The sparsity of the houses gives the neighborhood a rural vibe. The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area is an excellent escape for fishing, floating, and providing the perfect place for kids to play outdoors.
