Well-known for its beautiful estates, affluent community members, and variety of upscale amenities, Buckhead is considered among the most desirable areas in Georgia. More than 79,000 people reside there, and 46 percent of the population is made up of families. The price of homes and cost of living here is high.
Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
Shopping in Buckhead is legendary. Residents favor Lenox Square Mall, which is anchored by Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus, and Macy’s and is home to 250 specialty retailers. Its sister center, Phipps Plaza, an Atlanta landmark since 1959, is located just across Peachtree Road and filled with more than 100 stores, including Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Tiffany & Co., and Gucci.
Buckhead Village, which blends diverse shopping and culinary experiences with welcoming communal spaces, is another highly popular local attraction. Miami Circle, originally a small group of antique shops, is now a top resource for both interior designers and retail customers.
Things to Do
Residents gather annually for the Peachtree Road Race, sponsored during the Fourth of July weekend by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. This 10k run is a two-day event attracting runners and walkers from around the world.
Art Artists Market, featuring original art by 350 artists in categories such as contemporary, realism, representational, and Americana, draws a big crowd each January, and the Southeastern Designer Showhouse, hosted throughout the month of May, brings together nearly 20 interior design firms from across the Southeast, each taking an active role in the design of a home.
Atlanta Memorial Park covers almost 200 acres and serves as a memorial to the soldiers who fought in the battle of Peachtree Creek during the Civil War. This important battle took place in and around the park’s location, and there are numerous historical markers in the area. Bobby Jones Golf Course, which features multiple tees and large double greens, sometimes even two-hole locations, is also located here.
